Lia Alu was born in Agrigento, Italy. For as long as she can remember she nurtured a passion for dance and at the age of seven she entered the local school, where she trained in ballet, and folk dancing. At the age of 14 she entered a dance competition in Palermo City, Sicily and choreographed her first dance piece, for which she won best choreographer and dance piece.
At the age of 18 Lia moved to London to pursue her professional dance training and was accepted at the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (I.S.T.D.), where she completed the relevant courses in classical ballet to qualify as a ballet dancer and dance teacher. Two Years after moving to London Lia was offered a scholarship to attend the Urdang Academy for a year where she trained in ballet, jazz, contemporary, pas de deux choreography, tap, singing drama and musical theatre. At the end of this year Lia was cast as a soloist in the production of “Sophisticated Duke” by Colin Sinclair which was performed at the Bloomsbury Theatre, London.
After graduation in performing arts from The Urdang Academy, Lia was offered yet another scholarship at the West Street Dance Academy. After graduating she was offered her first professional part in the production of “Quo Vadis” by Gino Serripierri in Portugal. On her return from Portugal she began to teach in London and produced and directed a Cabaret act which performed at the Royal Lancaster Hotel for the Italian President” Oscar Luigi Scalfaro” as part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Italian Association “La Voce Degli Italiani.”
1999-2000 Lia was cast as a dancer/soloist in the production of
“Amar Amalia” by Belinda King, tribute to singer Amalia Rodriges
“The queen of Fado.”
2001 Lia was cast as “The Flower Girl” in the Dagon Alley Scene in the first Harry Potter film “Harry Potter and the philosopher’s Stone.”
2002 Lia was cast again in the second Harry Potter movie, “The Chamber of Secrets” this time as a teacher/wizard alongside Kenneth Brammagh, Maggie Smith and the late Sir Richard Harris.
She then appeared in the third and fourth Harry Potter films as a member of the jury.
2007 Lia attended the University of Cambridge where she qualified as a Pilates Instructor (OCR) in MAT WORK.
