This animated story, set in Cuba, during the pre-Castro era, extending to Europe and USA, charts the passionate, but doomed affair between a jazz pianist, Chico and a singer, Rita. Normally I have a lot to say, but the brevity of this review is an indication of how much I enjoyed this film – so much so that even if it were live action, I would still recommend it. It is an experience worth enjoying with a fresh perspective. The animation, the colouring, the music allowed me a connection with the mood. It’s very good story that is well structured, with interesting characters, great animation and a killer soundtrack. I can’t wait until the DVD is released. Even those that are cynical towards romantic films will find this hard to resist.   © K. Payne (2010)
